Indian Rupee gets a new symbol and coupled with international community just like Dollar, Euro and Pound, India gets a new symbol for its currency Rupee.

Indian government has uncovered a symbol of its currency, the rupee, a move that aims to place the aim of the third economic power in Asia on the same track as the dollar, euro and pounds. This symbol conceived around the letter “R” and drawn from the Latin alphabet and calligraphy used in Hindi Devanagari. The euro was the last currency that has a symbol in 1999.

The new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, was approved by the cabinet reflecting that the Indian currency, backed by an over-trillion dollar economy, was finally making its presence felt on the international market.

Earlier user used to type “Rs.” as a symbol of Indian Rupee currency. However we have got a new symbol but it will take around two years to get this symbol to be included in ‘Unicode Standard’ as per the Indian government officials.
