PLACES OF ATTRACTION IN DELHI
RED FORT:- Built in 1648 along with river Yamuna and enclosed by 35 feet high walls of red sandstone, Red Fort(Lal Quila) contains, though greatly damaged, Diwan-e-aam and Diwan-e-khas, Mumtaz Mahal, Khas Mahal, Moti Masjid, the Hammam and the Shah Burj. Diwan-e-khas was the place where Mughal Emperor Shahjahan sat on his famous Peacock Throne. Now it has become synonymous in India since it was from the ramparts of the Red Fort that the country’s Independence was declared. The Independence Day Celebrations, every year, are organhised at the ramparts of the Red Fort and the Prime Minister unfurls the National Flag. Recently the Red Fort has received the status of the World Heritage Site.
JAMA MASJID:- It is one of the biggest mosques in India. It was built by emperor Shah Jahan in 1658. It has three gateways, four angle towers and two minerates. It is the place where large number of muslims gather bare feet for mid-day prayers every Friday.
GURUDWARA SIS GANJ:- Located in Chandni Chowk, it is a place where Guru Tegh Bahadur’s head lay after he was beheaded by the order of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Gurbani is being chanted 24 hours from Granth Saheb which is the holy book of Sikhs. Every day large number of people irrespective of their caste and creed come for darshan.
JANTAR MANTAR:- Situated in Connaught Place, it is a strange collection of Salmon-coloured structures dominated by a huge sun dial, the ‘Samrat Yantra’enclosed by two circular buildings which together form ‘Ram Yantra’ as well as ‘Misra Yantra’. This wonderful device makes it possible to tell the time in four other place in the world when it is noon in Delhi. Tourists are deligted in calculating the exact time with the help of the sun dial.
MUSEUMS:- Some of the museums worth visiting are: * Gandhi National Museums *Nehru Planetarium & Nehru Museums * National Gallery of Modern Art, *National Museum * Rabindra Bhawan *National Rail Museums *Tibet House, *Sanskriti Museum.
DILLI HAAT:- It is an upgraded version of the traditional weekly market, offering a delightful food and cultural activities and amalgam of crafts.
Apart from the above places, there are beautiful parks in Delhi. These are Mughal Garden in Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate Lawns, Buddha Jayanti Park, Kalindi Kunj, Deer Park, Nehru Park, Millennium Park, and so on. Besides these, some picnic spots around Delhi are Suraj Kund, Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Badhkal Lake,etc.
