National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR) came into existence   on 30 September 2002 with the merger of National Institute of Science Communication (NISCOM) and Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC).

An institute capable of serving the society using modern IT infrastructure in a more effective manner and taking up new ventures in the field of science communication, dissemination and S&T information management systems and services.

Admission 2009

Equipped with the necessary facilities and manpower, NISCAIR is ideally placed to train and prepare science communicators, R&D personnel, Library and Information professionals for meeting  the challenges of current times. NISCAIR’s HRD Programmes can be broadly categorized as follows:

A.  Associateship in Information Science (AIS)

AIS is a two-year programme equivalent to Master’s degree in Library & Information Science recognized by Govt. of India and many Indian Universities. The students of this course  are selected through a written test and interview. Persons having a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in (i) Master’s degree or (ii) four-year plus degree like B.E./M.B.B.S. or (iii) Bachelor’s  degree plus B.Lib.Sc. plus one year of relevant experience after B.Lib.Sc. are eligible to apply.

B  Short-Term / Attachment / On-site Training Programmes

Short Term Training Courses

 NISCAIR conducts short term courses in the field of Library and Information Science and other areas.  
   
On-Site Training Programmes

NISCAIR can organize any of Short-Term courses or similar courses desired by the client at the client’s premises subject to a minimum of 10 participants.

 
Eligibility for Short Term Courses and Attachment Training Programmes

These courses are offered to R&D personnel, Science communicators, Library & Information Science personnel/students, middle and senior level managers, etc.
